Mason,

RE: upcoming IBM fab

They may start out with optical lithography and end up doing X-ray(or just X-ray from the beginning). They can afford to experiment given their size, the endorsement is meaningless. IBM is becoming less relevant as a semi-manufacturer. IBM can afford to buy back $16 billion in stock, but is tenth or lower in capital spending. This spending pattern would indicate that they do not plan to be a major player in fabrication at some point.

Should be interesting to see what equipment they install once the shell is built. They plan on starting at 0.18 drawn feature sizes, so DUV would be the safe economic bet for first process.
