cartographic, engineering, and technical documents... Co.
believes users of Geographic Information Systems (015)
related spatial data require accurate digitization of color
maps so the 12/95 acquisition of Tangent Engineering was
highly synergistic with Sedona Geoservices, acquired July
`95... acq. gives SCNG rights to distribute first open
architecture, object oriented database management system
for processing geospatially oriented information... data
collected from ~an-based global positioning systems, aerial
photographs, satellite images... products allow objects
such as maps, images, text and relational database info to
be digitized (put on computer), organized, manipulated
within a single, user friendly system... this geospatial
software technology was originally developed for U.S. Gov.
users by GE Aerospace, Martin Marietta and Lockheed Martin
(LMT)... President Andrew Trolio says GIS is $6 to $10
billion market, growing 20% to 30%... market includes
software, data creation, hardware and consulting... In Feb.
`96, Sedona became one of eight principal members of the
Open GIS Consortium, Inc, (OGC) an org. of over 70 members
dedicated to open systems approaches to geoprocessing...
other principal members include LMT, Oracle Systems, Sun
Microsystems, Mitsubishi, Intergraph, Apple Computer, and
USDAC, a NASA-funded collaborative... OGC has recognized
Sedona's licensed technology to be the best of its kind in
the marketplace... since an industry standard (OGIS) is
being developed, SCNG believes most other 015 cos. will
shift to open architecture GIS and will license Sedona's
technology, rather than develop their own .. 3-fold Sedona
strategy: Commercialize products and services specifically
for/with strategic partners, digitization of maps and
aerial photos for specific customers, and for distribution
over the internet, and development of OGIS-standard open
data access (middleware) technology which Co. believes will
create mass market for GIS technology... SCNG is already in
talks with major database cos. to form alliances... After
review of co.'s products and talks with management, believe
there are many attractive features of the 015 products and
believe applications are virtually limitless... user
interface is X-Windows-based and very user friendly,
software can be sold as part of a system integration or as
an off-the-shelf data management solution, and special
compression, decompression allows users to access and
manipulate very large files. . . applications include map
development, urban planning, utilities management, mining
and resource exploration, transportation planning,
environmental services, global positioning systems, and
office and retail outlet location decisions... cities will
be able digitize streets and underground pipes and wires to
enhance urban planning... retailers looking to expand can
select an area on a map and access virtually any database
information such as competitors, population density and
growth, income growth, and allow them to make much more
intelligent expansion plans... cos. will be able to better
track inventory levels by geographic locations to better
manage costs and sales... information concerning hazardous
and flammable material locations within plants can be
digitized to better aid fire and rescue departments... Mr.
Trolio believes most of revs. near term will come from
commercial products and data creation and updating, and
sees revs. starting Q4 `96... also sees revs. growing
exponentially... Think SCNG offers investors rare chance to
