No, Ted, it WAS about shutting down the government. When Newt shut down the government, SS checks didn't go out, Fed employees stayed home, contractors were given IOUs, and after a few days of that, the (R)'s caved.

It wasn't the same at all. Congress and Rs were making extensions to the debt ceiling to keep things going. It was Clinton who pulled the plug. The Rs in this Congress don't even want to do temporary extensions. They want a balanced budget amendment or nothing. And let me add.....back in 1995, the economy was out of recession and humming along nicely.

The worst part about this mess........Boehner can't control his caucus. And one last thing, I don't think the bill that Obama has constructed will pass the House. I think he will still have to fall back on the 14th amendment.......triggering a constitutional crisis.
