K: I have forgotten the proper attribution (a British diplomat, I think) who said that in diplomacy a lie isn't considered to be a lie when everyone knows the statement to be untrue. So under this rule our politicians wouldn't consider themselves to be liars when talking to one another. What has surprised me in these weeks of news coverage is the absence of commentary on what the baseline increases were scheduled to be in % terms. Yesterday I heard some talking head slip up and say the current projected spending would have been EIGHT per cent higher. ROFL is better than heartburn or worse while waiting for the next chance to vote'em out.
