Other than avoiding tax increases the Dems mostly got what they wanted. I guess if that's their biggest issue, if they want tax increases above all else, then they "lost", but they did get

1 - Almost no immediate spending cuts, or even "cuts" (claimed cuts that are really reductions in the rate of growth with spending still going up).

2 - The only enforcement mechanism for future "cuts" targeted at defense, and compensation for medical providers, no reduction in government transfer payments, or reduction in the role of government.

3 - A baseline that includes not raising taxes as a tax cut, and not increasing spending as a cut.

The only thing the Republicans got out of this was avoiding tax increases. Other than that the Democrats haven't given in any way with real substance, on anything that they generally consider really important. And even the no tax increases isn't a real concession, they can always be raised later, the compromise doesn't repeal the expiration of the increase.

The only ways to look at this as a win for Republicans is either to focus on the big government Republicans, since a deal like this is right up their alley, or to figure that the Republicans where so weak that they never had a chance at getting anything of real substance so getting this is doing well with what they had.
