Lobbyists successfully exist for one reason, and one reason only.... to buy favors for their employer. Many of the "favors" are tax favors in return for campaign contributions. To think that Congress will EVER change the tax system to a "Fair Tax" or a "Flat Tax" is naive. Such revisions to our tax system would effectively eliminate the need for lobbyists thus cutting off the largest source of money for Congressional reelection campaigns.

Could a revamp of the tax system eliminate the corrupt consequences of lobbyists? Yes. Could it eliminate one bureaucracy (the IRS) thus saving taxpayer money and reducing the size of government? Yes. Could it raise additional revenue? Yes. Would it be more fair? Yes. Would it go a long way to satisfying the delta between revenue and spending? Yes.

Will it ever happen? No! Congress will NEVER cut off the source of major funding for their campaigns. They will merely TALK about tax reform while having no intention of changing it.

So it goes. We need to live with it and quit whining, or change it by voting against incumbents in all future elections regardless of party. Only voters can eliminate the concept of a political "career". Career politicians cause most governmental problems, and most of the division and animosity that exists within this country. It couldn't be more clear after what we have been witnessing in the past weeks and months. No one is a winner in this mess. We are becoming a laughing stock throughout the world. Sad ......
