The market for Web advertising is still in infancy.

Cowles/SimbaNet, a research firm, estimated that Web advertising jumped 27 percent in the third quarter to $169.8 million, while year-to-date spending in the first nine months of 1997 was $387 million, topping 1996 levels.

According to Jupiter Communications, total advertising dollars spent on the Internet will reach $4.5 billion by the year 2000 and commitments from some major advertisers, such as Intel Corp <INTC.O>, are expected to help boost advertising spending on the Internet next year.
