First off Obama has added more to the debt in a few years than Bush did in 8.

Secondly, the democrats held off making any decisions as they thought they could push the hard financial decisions on to the republicans - and thereby vilify them - as they knew they had no shot at raising taxes without political fallout.

Lastly, the debt didn't just magically appear, the democrats have just been kicking the can down the road for years.
