Its a good thing then that we don't have a state religion. We do have a religion thats very popular in our country though.

Maybe Madison and Jefferson went to church services, but they did so only for political expediency. In private, they did not like organized religion at all.

I know enough about Jefferson to know thats totally wrong. Jefferson regularly attended church services on his own, riding a horse to get there long after he'd left office. It is true he was for a defacto unitarian, but it isn't true he was hostile to religion.

I doubt its true of Madison either, but haven't read enough to be sure. People have been miseducated to think the FF's were all non-Christians who were hostile to religion. That just isn't true.

As for the constitution, the beliefs and opinions fo the writers matter in interpreting the text, not deciding the text means something it doesn't say based on one or two individuals alleged communciations in private letters.
