This is from a New York Times article bemoaning the fact that corporate profits are at a record percent of GDP but the data in the graphic in the article supports my points.



Apparently the previous peak of corporate profits in the 40s to 60s was almost as high as today's corporate profits as a percentage of GDP. Wages and salaries have declined (as a percentage, not in absolute terms) on a similar trend for a long time, while benefits climbed on a steeper trend until fairly recently. Proprietors income is up since 1980, but had a huge decline before that.
