This showed up shortly after reports that Apple had more cash in the bank than the federal government. That they suggested Apple's < 100B in cash was somehow enough to "bail out" the government from its 14T problem. The truth is that most people in this country have no idea at all what a trillion dollars is. I had this discussion with my friends over dinner recently, both of whom had M.A. degrees -- and asked them if they knew how many zeros a trillion had. Neither had any idea. It is just beyond the understanding of so many people how much money is involved.
