S&P has flat out stated there would have been a downgrade had either the 4 Trillion proposed by Boehner or the Ryan Plan been adopted.

But that's not true at all...i watched the managing director of SP on at least three separate occasions and in each he mentioned that a 4T cut would have likely not led to a downgrade...but more importantly he also said that the decision was based on inflexibility of washington politics...SP even wrote that in their report....i think they used the word "brinkmanship"...i think we all know who was taking to the "brink" don't we?

The only conclusion one can reach is that had the Democrats accepted the Republican proposals -- ANY of them -- rather than trying to negotiate for tax increases, we would have been better off.

But they did...what was signed was Mitch McConnell's proposal...
