We can do all sorts of Monday morning quarterbacking from the left and the right. Obama did not want to impose any thing on Congress and instead wanted Congress to come up with their own plan. He asked for 4T which was in line with what his commission had come up with. But he did not call it the Simpson-Bowles plan. He probably did so in a private meeting with speaker Boehner and had the speaker agree with his plan. But unfortunately, the Teapers in Congress would not want to have anything with the raising of the taxes which even the commission suggested. Now it is time to go after the Teapers.
