Re: the "death cross" I have found it a useful tool in shorting individual stocks. Check out a few of the names with decent volume and you will see that after the cross-over occurs, there is frequently a bounce - especially if the overall market trend is not down - and that is the point to short the stock. It especially works with the high-fliers that are momentum plays. It seems to work out pretty well though one needs to have a protective stop and one needs to have a plan to exit the position if it works out.
