My Rules for a Quality Dividend Growth Portfolio:

These rules are guidelines, not absolute. I'll bend some rules, as long as they are:
1. Quality
2. pay a respectable dividend
3. will grow that dividend

Buy companies with a LT trend of:
best in industry
payout ratio <60%
shares decreasing or at least stable
sales growth
earnings growth
dividend growth
emerging markets >25% of sales, and growing
lo debt, lo liabilities
hi cash

Diversification:
10-20 stocks in 3-6 industries.

Buy when:
macro shock and/or
industry out of favor causes
Div. Yield > 4%
stock at lo end of range
PE at low end of range
P/S at low end of range

Sell half when stock has doubled, or hits multi-year highs.
Buy back when Buy conditions return, and
continue doing this as long as the Secular Bear Market continues.
