Announcement

Professional Grade Drive Delivers 1 GIG For $199; Cartridges For $33

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1997-- SyQuest Corp. Inc.
(NASDAQ:SYQT - news) Tuesday announced that the first shipments of
SparQ, its highly anticipated one gigabyte removable drive, will reach
retail outlets this week.

The first professional grade drive available at a mass market price,
SparQ offers consumers the speed of a fixed drive with the flexibility
of a removable cartridge at the revolutionary price of $199. Cartridges
sell for $33.

SyQuest will ship SparQ in volume to retail and distribution accounts
this month. The first 8,000 units are being shipped direct to Comp USA
and Best Buy.

In less than three weeks, SyQuest has accumulated orders for SparQ
drives and cartridges that exceed the highest unit volume of backlogged
orders ever reached for the company's award-winning SyJet product.

''We've finalized our software installation interface and are pleased to
be able to meet the commitments we made to our retail partners to be
shipping by mid-November,'' Ed Harper, president, SyQuest, said. ''Each
and every one of our channel partners has described SparQ as a 'home
run,' and retailers want it in stock before the holiday rush. We're
going to meet that request, just as we promised.''

By the end of the month, all of SyQuest's retailers, including Fry's,
Computer City, Egghead Software and Future Shops, will have SparQ drives
and cartridges on their shelves, and SyQuest will have product for
reorder, Harper said.

Based in Fremont, Calif., SyQuest Technology Inc. invented the
high-performance cartridge category. Since 1982, the company has shipped
more than 16 million cartridges that people use to expand their ideas
