Thanks for the sub-$1000 system sale slip story. Any speculation why sub-$1000 was blip up in August and dropped in September, maybe the "back-to-school sale"? What ever.

I went to my llocal CompUSA and Best Buy stores(in Washington DC area) during the wekend, I saw only a few (some where between one to three) sub-$1000 system in display. During my 30 minutes observation, I didn't see anyone even ask about the sub-$1000 systems. The sub-$1000 system, in general, has a bare minimum configuration and does not come with a monitor, has no easy up-grade path.

Anyone remember in late 1995, Packard Bell begged Intel to covert its payment to a debt to Intel? That's because Packard Bell ordered too much low-end Pentium 60/75 chips, and had very hard time to sell those low-end systems to consumers
