Rocky, I try and have an open mind when I try to predict what product will reign in the future. I am not an expert or am I 100% accurate, but I do have some luck at guessing future trends.

We all knew who won here, right?
Windows vs OS/2
Beta vs VHS
Vinyl Records vs CD
8 Track vs Cassette
Dat Tape vs CD
Laser Disc vs DVD (The battle is not over, but the writing is on the wall)
This list can go on, and on............

Next "possible" battles:
CLIK vs Sony Mini Disk
CLIK vs PC Card Flash Memory
CLIK vs 35 mm Film
CLIK vs 1.44 Floppies in Sub NOTEBOOKS & PDA's
ZIP vs The rest of the removable storage industry

These are my personal guesses:
ZIP will be the next industry standard in removable (Bootable) storage, the next "FLOPPY"
CLIK, Will be the next retail 35 mm film. As far as the rest, I bet on CLIK.

Rocky, you are right when you mentioned something about a "new technology" changing the industry, I would say, watch optical storage, but that would be in the future, right now I would still bet on magnetic storage. I still believe mechanical storage devices are going to be here for a LONG time.
