I watched the Agbeko-Mares fight this weekend.

First boxing match I have watched in a long time. It reminded me of why I now watch MMA instead of boxing.

I couldn't believe the ref. With twenty or more low blows by Mares, whenever the ref gave a warning, it was to Agbeko for pushing Mares' head down. Only problem was that Agbeko wasn't not the major perpetrator of head down pushing. Mares was doing that too.

The low blow in the 11th that was directly on the cup was the worst case. It was obvious even without the slo-mo replay. And the ref was perfectly positioned to see it. And he called it a knockdown.

The IBF is doing the right thing in mandating a rematch, but I hope that ref finds a new career. He is everything that is wrong with the sport.
