I doubt you really think that.
You're right, I don't *think* that. I'm having my doubts.
But please notice that in our little discussion I am the agnostic and doubter, while you seem to be a firm believer. There is really not much reason to be certain that true intelligence can be emulated; besides, as I tried to point out, it is far from certain that we can even define true intelligence.
Computers process data faster that we do, and and an 18 wheeler truck can carry more weight.... But you are just as unlikely to exchange thoughts or share a joke with a computer as you are with an 18 wheeler. Maybe in the future this will change, but so far such a belief belongs in the realm of faith. We simply imagine that as connections between various parts of our electronic gizmos will reach a certain very high level of complexity -- suddenly, as if by miracle, our creation will acquire a personality, and the new Homunculus will wake up, and smell the roses, and say good morning.
Who knows, maybe this is exactly what will happen.... But so far, at least in this Universe, we've seen no evidence to this effect. |
