A Democratic congresswoman who sharply criticized President Obama earlier this week said he needs to understand the "level of pain out here," as thousands of people lined up in the heat for a job fair Thursday in Atlanta.

Some had to seek medical attention after waiting so long in the extreme heat at Atlanta Technical College for a chance to get face time with potential employers. The job fair was organized by the Congressional Black Caucus.

Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., said he was expecting just 500, but thousands of job-seekers showed up instead.

Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who had expressed frustration with unemployment in the black community during an event in Detroit two days earlier, on said Thursday voters have given her "permission" to express that frustration with the Obama administration.

"They said, 'you're unleashed,'" she told MyFoxAtlanta.com, on the sidelines of a town hall meeting. "It's not simply about criticizing. It's about raising the level of discussion to involve more people so the president can understand even better the level of pain out here."

Lewis told MyFoxAtlanta.com he got emotional talking to all the people in his community seeking work.

"To walk the line and hear the stories of people -- at one time I teared up," he said.
