They will go to local and state conventions and switch sides when their candidate lose in convention. In other words there is no loyalty to the party whose convention they participate in.

Definitely. Congress have been littered with turncoats. Arlen Specter, Ben Campbell, et al.

Hell, even Rick Perry was a staunch Democrat for most of his political life.

You really can't trust any politician, whether it's a Republican or a Democrat. Especially in this age of multimillion dollar campaigns -- they need to essentially sell their souls to get the funding they need to win elections. The only reason why I somewhat sympathize with the Republicans is because I share very few things in common with the present day Democratic national platform.
