The Republican party is being torn apart by several different factions, the largest of which are somewhat diametric in scope -- the social conservatives and the libertarians. Some might argue that there is a third component of the Republican party -- the much reviled "establishment" Republicans (aka "the rich") that just want policies that only benefit their wallets, like eternally low taxes.

The Democrats appear to be more unified in scope, both in terms of their economic as well as their social policies.

People that I know who are active in Tea Party activities, at least out here in Arizona, are largely libertarians. They advocate limited government, maintenance of personal freedom, and stricter adherance to the Constitution. I'm curious if this is the case in other parts of the country, for instance, in the Deep South.
