I would not be surprised. I am preparing to be unsurprised by many things for the rest of this year. I got the calculation wrong for the Gold ounce thing in Roman times. The Aureus weighed 0.234 ounces. 400 litres/ 0.234 = 1709 litres of cheap wine, 854 pounds of flour. I have not checked local prices, but gold does not look overpriced to me.
