Taxi, HE HE HE! From what I've learned anybody who bought a share of a publicly held company's stock is called a shareholder\stockholder. Now the executing brokers may keep the stock certificate for us, but that doesn't mean we don't own it. If we own the stock, then we are a shareholder of the company believe it or not.

Unfortunately, whether you accept that reasoning or not, if you are just waiting to buy the stock in anticipation of some bad news to hit and it doesn't really matter how long you can wait, you cannot be called a shareholder, yet. Good day! sycamore
