altair,

Were you using your ipad over a wifi connection, or by 3G? Did it work in Canada? My ipad will work in the states if I allow it to roam, but the cost of doing so is prohibitive. I pull the SIMM card and stow it away in a safe place until I get back into Canada. That means that I can only use it over a wifi connection. I did try getting an AT&T card once in the U.S., and could get part way through the registration process, but I would need a U.S. credit card to finish the process. Some people have managed to register a card by buying a gift VISA card and registering it to any U.S. address whch is within AT&T's service areas. I tried that, but could not get that to work. I have heard that U.S. ipad owners cannot do the equivalent in Canada as the U.S. ipads are locked and only work with the carrier that is associated with the SIMM card that originally shipped with their ipad.

Annoying stuff for international travellers.
