Toshiba Intros Second Generation DVD-ROM, Lead Developer of DVD Technology Boasts Proven Reliability and Performance
LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Disk Products Division (TAIS DPD) Monday introduced the SD-M1102 DVD-ROM drive, Toshiba's second generation DVD-ROM drive that builds upon its predecessor to offer industry-leading performance and reliability.
The new SD-M1102 will be demonstrated at COMDEX/Fall, Las Vegas Convention Center, No. L1214.
Toshiba has an unparalleled track record in implementing this new technology and helping OEMs integrate DVD into their systems. Toshiba's new SD-M1102 employs Constant Angular Velocity technology and a 256K buffer to deliver a fast 2X-max read of DVD media (1350-2700 KB/sec) and a 24X-max read of CD media (1550-3600KB/sec) and burst data transfer of 16.7MB/sec for multi-word DMA Mode 2 and PIO mode 4. the SD-M1102 provides a 160ms average random access for DVD-ROM media and a 105ms average random access fo CD-ROM media.
The SD-M1102 DVD-ROM drive can read all DVD ROM disc capacities and all types of data recorded on DVD discs, including movies, music, games and data. With the appropriate hardware, the drive also supports playback of MPEG-2 video and Dolby AC-3 Digital Surround Sound audio. The new drive also provides read compatibility with all CD-based media, including CD-R and CD-RW.
Toshiba's experience with first generation DVD-ROM drives gives Toshiba the edge over competitive products when it comes to drive reliability. The new SD-M1102 DVD-ROM drive has a 100,000 hour MTTF.
The SD-M1102 DVD-ROM drive has an ATAPI interface and may be mounted horizontally or vertically.
The SD-M1102 measures 1.7-inch (41.5mm)(h) x 5.8-inch (146mm)(w) x 7.7-inch (193mm)(l) and weighs 2.2 pounds (.98kg). The drive has an average power consumption of 7.1 watts.
Toshiba's SD-M1102 DVD-ROM drive is available now in volume quantities. The suggested list price is $279.
