My optimistic personality (part-time) says that prosperity will sneak up on Americans as the world markets expand and China becomes wealthier and higher-cost. Hey, it could happen. I'm actually amazed we've managed to stay more or less even despite the intense competition from Asia. We have so much layered in excess cost. And I am happy for the 3.0 billion formerly impoverished Asians, many of whom are able now to have much better lives. Personally, I'd rather be a bit poorer if it means that billions of others can have the opportunity to prosper.
