If you can't support your assertion a second bomb was necessary, I'm wasting my time.

Today it would have been easy to inform everybody about the extensive destruction done by the first bomb: Just let a guy with an iPhone circulate the pix to the inside guys making the decisions.

You may have missed the point, Steve, that back then that wasn't so easy and in particular not where no phone lines were left.

It would have taken a couple of days to substantiate such alleged rumors about the very massive destruction, which in fact was caused by the first bomb in Hiroshima.

As for your ideas, that the Japanese military conspired to kill the emperor, that is indeed a very badly supported assumption. Just the tought of such an enormous crime would be unthinkable in Japan back then.

I have followed several disputes about the necessity or not of ever dropping a nuke on Japan that close to the end of WW II, but most experts on the issue seem to be at a loss coming up with strong support for the necessity of the 2nd bomb under the circumstances.
Thus I finally find it refreshing, that at least one of them, Steve Harris, finally seems to hold the key and solution to that subject.

It would thus be close to a crime to deny the world your unequalled insight and wisdom here.
