Somewhat OT...

Dialogue from the TV series "The Closer" tonight as spoken by a character trying to justify his role managing money laundering for the Garcia international drug cartel,

"How many American lives have been destroyed by Wall Street traders in the last few years? How many homes lost... pensions wiped out? How many related suicides? Who gets arrested when an oil rig blows up in the gulf? The only difference between those guys and the cartel is that the Garcias know their victims by name."

He has been caught and has made a deal to testify against the Garcias.

Brenda says to him, "But you get to walk away." and he replies, "That's the way it is sweetheart. The banker always walks away."

I find it interesting the way that truth is sometimes slipped into TV programming.

Here's one more...

“This is a duopoly. Two parties that are pretty much aligned protect the compaign contributors, protect the big businesses. They're both on the side of cutting right now and nobody's on the side of investing for rebuilding the economy because that would actually take sacrifice at the top. The top doesn't care. They're off in the world markets. They're off in the emerging economies. They're off making money elsewhere. They've left America... at least one foot out the door. That's the real problem that neither party is facing honestly.” - Jeffrey Sachs - 8.21.11 on Fareed Zakaria's GPS show.

There was a panel of "experts" present, but nobody onscreen reacted. It was as if the statement had never been made.
