Sure, the family knows my views. If it is my wife's mother's side, we don't talk politics much anymore. If it is my wife's father's side, it is a regular mini tea party gathering. My Mom (who also posts here on SI) has politics very similar to mine. But a couple of her siblings fall into the ultra liberal progressive category. I'd say that most topics about pretty much anything are off limits with them. My wife is in the movie industry which is, as you might guess, very liberal. I avoid her industry parties as being conservative in hollywood is frowned upon pretty significantly. She could see work dry up if she let her views be known to the wrong people. (wife is conservative, but she wouldn't really identify herself as a tea partier).
