Chromatic is being selected for various PC based products right now for a few reasons:

Number one has to be that if somebody insists on another copy protection scheme, you can hope to add it through software, and keep your current buyer future proof.

Number two is C-Cube's solution also requires a PCI bridge chip
and or an analog overlay chip. Chromatic is putting out pictures that are acceptable for now, on a PC.

MPEG decoding will eventally be done in software. The faster the processors are, the more likely. This will take awhile.

C-Cube is selling MPEG2 encoders! PC's won't be powerful enough to do this in real time, any time soon.
