I thought it was interesting that I started a board six years ago on SS and said the same thing I'm posting here. The politicians embezzled the SS trust fund and now they don't want to pay it back! They would rather cut future benefits and raise the retirement age than pay back the money they stole from Social Security. They should have made a law that it was illegal to spend the trust fund and bought government bonds with it. Then it would be there today. But no...the baby boomers paid into SS and the politicians spent the money...now there's nothing left and no one to give the bill too.
