Intel, world+dog sued by California Fish and Game authority
Hundreds of defendants held responsible for waste

A case was filed in the central California district court by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, the California Department of Fish and Game, and the California Regional Water Quality Control board against Intel. But not just Intel.
The suit names so many defendants that even at top typing speed, it would take the rest of the day to list them all. But they include American Airlines, Honda, Anheuser Busch, Bank of America, BASF, Budget Rent a Car, the cities of Burbank, Huntinton Beach, Lompoc, Monrovia, Palo Alto, San Jose, San Diego, Sunnyvale and others.
Coca Cola, National Semiconductor, and Nestle are also defendants.
These authorities want the court to recover from the defendants costs under section 107(a) of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) in connection with the releases and threatened releases of hazardous substances at or from the Casmalia Resources Superfund Site.
The regulatory authorities allege that each defendant generated and disposed of hazardous substances at the Casmalia Site. The Casmalia facility was a commercial hazardous waste treatment and disposal facility which "accepted large volumes of hazardous substances from 1973 to 1989". It's a 252 acre area in Santa Barbara County.
The authorities that brought the lawsuit have cleaned up the mess that it's alleged the defendants left. Intel, for example, is alleged to have sent a total of 2,686,641 lbs of hazardous material to this facility.If the case is proven, Intel doesn't even win first prize as a defendant. Memorex is alleged to have dumped 3,157,947 lbs of hazardous waste there.
