This country is so different..really it is more like 8-10-12 'America's' to me from all my travels. blue versus red by state in and of itself is very narrow minded thinking outside of New England.. For instance do you really think inner city Detroit, San Francisco, Texas barrio border towns and the picturesque New England towns of Vermont have much in common?

With the exception maybe of the TX barrio towns, I think there are some similarities. I think all those places you cite still believe in science; that SS and Medicare are important to the US way of life; that healthcare might be done on a national level; that progress is important to the well being of the US, that religion is important but needs to remain separate from gov't, etc.

I exclude the TX barrio towns because they are primarily made up of Latinos.....mostly from Mexico where there are some cultural differences with the US. And there is the overlay of TX.........which may or may not be a factor........I don't know how much influence the state has over the border towns.

The US is too big and diverse to be this homogenous culture where everyone is the same. That's always been true. But these days, the differences loom large in ways they never did before. And both sides seem intractable.......unwilling to compromise.

That's how I see. What say you?
