Tom, thanks for your views. What you refer to in your TeleMed example is downloadable video. I agree that this is a hugely useful tool but I don't see the connection to my PC.

In this mode I view the TV as a kind of Internet appliance that only serves a single purpose. Namely, listing and presentation of available video. I still use it as I use my existing TV/ VCR except the choices are larger. I would still want a PC seperate from the TV to perform more varied tasks.

BTW, you won't see IP traffic on DirectTV because there is nowhere near enough bandwidth available. That's the advantage of fiber to the home. One OC-48 carries as much video as 500 channels on DirectTV (in terms of raw bandwidth).
