MM- Lot of comparisons have been made to QCOM being similar to MSFT in that they have licensing rights to a product that will dominate the marketplace. The theory is that IS-95 will be the dominant wireless technology and everyone will end up paying Qualcomm. This scenario is overly optimistic and wishful thinking, but that is why the comparison is made, I have not made it. The "flat world" or pancake comment was made by Dr. Irwin Jacobs of Qualcomm when he stated that some people still don't believe IS- 95 cdma is a superior technology and also believe it will nevr be competitive on a large scale, "Some people don't quite learn. Some people believe in a flat world." He went on to say that GSM is Qualcomm's chief competition.
