Yes, and I bet you're not complaining either. I had a great childhood and I learned a lot from it.

By the way, I wasn't suggesting that being from a working poor background would, or should, make you more liberal or more conservative. I was simply responding to an inquiry from jorj where, with respect to a statement I made about semi-skilled and unskilled workers, he asked:

Perhaps you would like to first provide your background so that we can see the bias in your views. Your statement above indicates that you must live in a world where unskilled and semi-skilled workers are the norm and that this gives you a special insight into their plight.

Finally, you suggest that success is the result of effort. Many conservatives seem to stop there but, of course, that is only part of the formula for success. If you don't hit any of the numbers on the genetic lottery you can try as hard as you want and fail every time. It's those folks who get left behind, left out and marginalized because, in today's world, their production is not marketable.

So, while it's very comfortable to blame that bottom of society for their own troubles, sometimes that's simply not the case and as the world gets more and more mechanized and more and more work gets sent overseas there will be fewer and fewer living wage jobs for the many Americans who are forever perched on the bottom of the curve.
