I'd say that in today's economy where semi-skilled workers are desperate for any job and there are few openings available and many applicants lined up to fill them, you'd be fired on the spot or laughed out of the boss's office.

Well that would be the risk, wouldn't it? But if the job isn't worth doing at the price they are being paid, then it is their right to go find another job. If they can't find another job at the price they want, then maybe they are pricing their services too high for the market. And if they want to get paid more, maybe they have to increase their skill level or find a new industry.

So let's bring in the union to demand that the workers get paid more. When that price crosses a certain cost threshold, what's the company gonna do? Well...we have history to refer to here. They are going to automate those jobs or they are going to go overseas where the workers will work for a price that makes more sense to the company. What have the unions gained at this point?
