KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 Asia Pulse - Astro, the country's first Direct-to-User (D-T-U) satellite TV service, said that following an overwhelming response to a first anniversary promotion, it now had more than 130,000 subscribers.

This followed a price of RM799 (US$242) for the D-T-U set, which includes a box decoder and satellite dish.

Shazalli Ramli, ASTRO's marketing director, said in a statement that the price, with effect from Monday, would be RM999.

He said that with the US dollar appreciating against the ringgit, there was pressure for the retail price to rise by about 30 percent.

However, he said ASTRO would maintain the price of RM999 as long as it could could to allow more people to subscribe.
