I believe Medicare and SS must be saved for the current generations of retirees -- those 55 and older. My own view is that people 45-55 should be subject to a phaseout of benefits and people under 45 need to start saving. I don't believe it is morally right to tell people their entire lives they will receive these benefits then not provide them.

In the end, Medicare needs to go, replaced by private plans which are more efficient and benefit from competition. But it would be wrong not to fulfill commitments to people who are reliant on it, and it would be wrong to have persons now in their 20s and 30s actually believe it will be there for them. It won't, and you cannot fix it so it will.

The federal government is incapable of managing such a program.

I also believe a person has to be terminally stupid to think that tax increases will solve the problem.
