Different countries don't count infant deaths the same ways so international comparisons of infant mortality aren't meaningful.

Re life expectancies - adjust for traffic fatalities and violent deaths and the US is very similar to other countries. Also comparing demographic groups within the US to foreign countries with similar demographics puts comparable US life expectancies higher.
