Dear Meta,

I must confess a debt of gratitude to ...several of those "GOP clowns"...

Back in 2001, I had begun to establish a position in PMs (both bullion and stocks) but was hesitant...until two events struck me like a baseball bat:

A. Prior to the invasion of Iraq, both Gen Shinseki, (then) Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and (then) Sec. of the Army White independently testified before congress that it would take several hundred thousand US troops to secure the peace in Iraq after Saddam was defeated. As a consequence of their truth telling, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Cheney quickly purged them from the Bush administration. (Wolfowitz testified that the number of several hundred thousand was..."way off the mark"...)

B. In his book, "The Price of Loyalty" Paul O'Neill, Bush's first Secretary of Treasury, describes his astonishment when VP Cheney declared in the midst of a Cabinet meeting: "Deficits don't matter!" O'Neill was soon thereafter told to resign because he wouldn't co-sign such bullshit.

Taken together, I realized that Bush et al were determined to drive their agenda NO MATTER THE COST to the budget, to the economy, to the US Army, to the strength of the US$.

I was deeply saddened by that realization but....want to here and now thank those clowns for giving me the painful clarity to increase my PM investments.
