I think that the Thermo companies may trade a little lower
due to tax selling. If they do, I will be buying TMD and TMO.
What do people think are good levels?
I now view TMO as a venture capital fund. They find great
ideas/companies and then make them a subsidiary. They
keep the scientists and executives by giving them founders
shares(which only can be exercised when the subsidiary goes
public). Then, they offer shares in all of the subsidiaries under
theirs as they grow. It leads to great retention of skilled management
and scientists.
The new companies have access to TMO's legal and corporate
department, combined credit lines, access to financial markets
that place them in a different universe than other start-ups. Also,
a large number of people find out about the companies since
they get shares in the IPO's/spin-outs.
