To back up means to provide some reference material that what you are asserting is true. To give a whiny excuse that the sentence that contained your assertion was a question is not backing up your assertion, it is backing down from backing it up. Neither is saying that you can believe whatever you want a substantiation of your assertion. Jumping to another topic does not back up your assertion. Nor does asking a question as if you are incredulous that someone could question the validity of your assertion.

If you don't have the brains or common decency to acknowledge the above you are not honest enough to be worth exchanging with.
