LS--what is your background in economics & history if I may ask? You seem to have plenty to say about both of them.

so all you will accept is some stodgy old professor's opinion? do you know that most people actually continue to learn things long after school? as a matter of fact, even universities are just supposed to prep you for a job. some things can't be learned in school because it would take too much time to learn the minutia. but the minutia still has to be learned. and all the great scientists and philosophers go far beyond what they learned in school. most people learn beyond what they learned in school.

if i remember correctly, einstein got lousy grades in his physics classes and wasn't even accepted to college at first. he worked as a patent clerk until he wrote and submitted some of his work that was praised by academia.

besides, do you want to always accept authority? authority can and should be challenged. (appeal to authority is a logical fallacy)
