LA recovered, has great weather, unlimited things to do, lots of economic drivers...Yeah it has huge issues that would shock most who've lived their life in their own bubble of middle or small town America but I think compared to, say Miami it ain't even close IMHO... Opportunities everywhere are greatest in times of distress but way too many today became debt slaves to the system plus overwhelmed by the constant changes of technology and globalization and immigration.. You want the real whimps..the constant complainers....look at the many teabagger and permabear types you do battle with on your favorite boards. I doubt any of them are AA's in the hood's squeezed and screwed on all sides part to their own making, part to their surroundings and part the system.

What I've learned on these boards is that few people do their own thinking. Its easier to go along with the crowd.
The other thing I've learned is that way too many Americans believe the pablum that has been fed to us. Growing up, a number of things seemed off to me but what did I know.......I was a kid. Well as an adult, I've learned that a lot of what we've been told...the horatio alger stories, the whole world wants to come here because its utopia on earth, that we are the greatest democracy on earth, etc only have some truth to them.......the rest is purely nationalistic opiates fed to the masses.

The truth is we have a debt problem that is a problem but not a huge problem. We are no where near the levels of a Greece, an Italy, a Spain or a Portugal. And those countries are far superior to third world countries. We have a debt problem that is manageable.......that can be resolved over time despite what the Rs want us to believe. American consumers are another story........they racked up a lot of personal debt over the past ten years. However, they seem to be getting the folly of their ways and have been paring down that debt for the past three years.

The biggest problem facing this country is that we have a very vocal minority who want a gov't that doesn't require taxes and runs on fumes. Our problem is a political and cultural one. One that has gotten so severe it is causing us economic hardship. We now have political gridlock in DC and we have a segment of the population that doesn't really believe in American cultural values. They have their own set of cultural and religious values and they want the rest of the US to adopt them. They are so desperate they are willing to run the American economy into the ground to get their way. And they will not be happy until the rest of accept their rather peculiar way of life...........because you know.........they are doing God's work here on earth.

Its a very serious problem that could well lead to a Balkan breakup of this country, or another civil war. That is what Obama is so fiercely trying to prevent.
