Most Japanese shorts have already covered and it is too risky to short now. I do not think the government is doing any thing except to leave the markets under some small uncertainty about whether or not public funds will be infused into banks. So, the Nikkei 255 bank stocks have pulled back somewhat. Any theory for the US stock market crash cannot (IMO) be based on a Nikkei dropping below 14000 -- that is too easy a theory to prevail.
