Sam:
re: is VSGN really worth $140 million

maybe.

The good news is that borl just picked up a company for 9.3MM cash. (the cost of funding next years burn rate) IF BORL can use the assets to generate an additional 10MM year from the technology they have done a "Dave Del Dato no money down deal" and should it continue it may be non-dilutive as to earnings.

However, on August 8, 1996, Visigenic completed its initial public offering of 2.4 million shares of common stock, 400,000 of which were offered by selling shareholders, at $7.50 per share. Hambrecht & Quist LLC and Robertson, Stephens & Company, L.P., were the managing underwriters for the offering. (information from the VSGN thread on SI). Now they have about 11MM more shares than that. I dont know where these shares came from but it might have been from the underwriters "overallotment" and other sources. If adequete consideration was given, this would make a difference. But I have not finished the analysis.

Therefore the ans is still: maybe. I will try to keep looking.

The Duke.
