Fugazi:

Your posts were just too compelling not to be a part of (I'm breaking all my rules about time spent on SI).

First of all, thanks once again to everyone for your kindness and effort to find PD info. Once I've learned more about the biology of the disease, I'll pursue each of your leads.

The participants of this thread are forced to accept that Dr. Niman's relationship with Ligand is what he says it is. But I agree with the thrust of your posts, Fugazi: if his allusions to forthcoming news are as hard to unravel as you have found, we are absolutely correct in questioning his association with the Company.

The following scenario would not be impossible (and I would like to reinforce the doublespeak that runs rampant on this thread - I am NOT accusing Dr. Niman of anything nor do I believe this to be true; I'm just saying it would not be inconceivable): Dr. Niman is a paid consultant for Ligand and thus has access to all levels of information. His main daytime job for the company is, you got it, to maintain the 'proper' tone on this here thread.

Many have accused me of being uncivil. I would like to note that Dr. Niman was one of the few regular participants who did not express thoughts regarding my father. In addition, he did not respond to my inquiry about the time and frequency of his posts. I've learned better than to ask him any more questions. Since the above scenario fits Dr. Niman's use of working hours, the consultant theory is consistent with what a number of us have observed in Dr. Niman's posts and posting habits.

And now that many of you will have fun mocking me and insulting my intelligence, please, answer the question: How does Dr. Niman support a family by posting messages on the web all day long? CW
